Looking backward allows us to celebrate the many successes we\u2019ve experienced over the year, particularly as they are reflected in the connections between families and schools. Looking forward, I know that 2015 will be even better. Join me as we take a quick meander through the highlights of 2014.<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A Note to School<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">I am truly privileged to have worked with a District School Board and Community of Schools who have fully\u00a0embraced the work of family engagement. Listening in to\u00a0conversations between administration (from Director to Principal), teachers, and families, I have deepened my awareness\u00a0of both the\u00a0privileges and complexities\u00a0of working with diverse families no matter who they are, where they are, or how they come to school. These new found understandings influence who I am not only as researcher, but as\u00a0a family\u00a0on the landscape of school.<\/p>\n<p>An engaged family researcher<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Families and schools in partnership recognize that this relationship is dynamic and changes as each new day and opportunity arises.\u00a0We\u00a0know that it is impossible to keep track of each and every accomplishment. But as the year draws to a close, let&#8217;s take time to reflect on\u00a0some of what we accomplished this year. While this is not a roadmap, a set of directions, or a recipe for other schools, it can serve as a set of ideas to consider \u00a0as the new year approaches.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>What did we do this year that is memorable, sustainable, and positive?<\/li>\n<li>What did we start? What did we continue? What does this look and sound like to a family and to a school? Some school communities when asked to provide input, indicate that they would like to learn\u00a0a little more about Mental Health and Well-Being (see <a title=\"Family-School Math Adventures\" href=\"https:\/\/wpms.nipissingu.ca\/familyengagement\/2014\/11\/14\/family-school-math-adventures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Family-School Ways to Well-Being: We&#8217;re All in This Together<\/a>) and of course, Mathematics has been a hot topic this year (see <a title=\"Family-School Math Adventures\" href=\"https:\/\/wpms.nipissingu.ca\/familyengagement\/2014\/11\/14\/family-school-math-adventures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Family-School Math Adventures<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wpms.nipissingu.ca\/familyengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2014\/10\/info.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-499\" src=\"https:\/\/wpms.nipissingu.ca\/familyengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2014\/10\/info-150x111.jpg\" alt=\"info\" width=\"122\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Communicate often and in as many different ways as possible.<\/strong> Recognize the expansive list of methods and forms of communication.
